Day 1

Day 2
This full day tour departs early in the morning from your hotel in the city, directly to the train station. The Trans-Isthmian railway system was built in 1850 to facilitate the construction of the Panama Canal.
The train journey takes about 1 hour, taking you to Colon, going through the jungle, the Soberania National Park and along the Panama Canal.
Upon arrival, you will be transfer to the city of Portobelo – one of the most important American ports during the colonial time. Here, you will learn about the history of the town that in 1668 was attacked by the pirate Henry Morgan and you will visit the most interesting and historic ruins: the forts of Santiago and San Geronimo, the Customs House, the remains of the church of La Merced, and the church of San Felipe – the last building built by the Spaniards.
Besides, you will visit the beautifully carved statue of Jesus of Nazareth which, because of the dark wood from which it is made, is known as the “Black Christ”.
Lunch is included in one of the restaurants of Portobelo.

Half day tour: Panama Canal tour – Miraflores Locks
The Panama Canal is an engineering wonder with more than a century of history.
During this half day tour, you will visit the Miraflores Locks visitor’s center – with its three different main attractions: The Museum, the movie, and the lookout point.
In the Museum you will be able to view documents, instruments and pictures related with the construction and operation of the Canal; the movie is a short film that summarizes the 100 years of history of the Canal; and from the lookout point, it is possible to observe ships maneuvering through the chambers.
On the way back, you will also visit the Panama Canal Administration Building to enjoy of the amazing murals that adorn the rotunda of the building. These murals are a narration of the history of the Canal and the intense manual labor that went into its construction. It is a way of commemorating the history of the Canal and all those who worked on its construction and operations.
