The city of the Arts, a “megacenter” for culture and education, was inaugurated this Tuesday in Panama, a move to boost culture with the aim of becoming “a cultural epicenter of the region.”
This “new House of the Arts will also be a dynamic cultural center showcasing the talent of our scientific creators.” The City of the Arts, located in the wooded area of the capital, is composed of seven buildings housing three auditoriums, a multifunctional theater with a capacity of 500 spectators, exhibition halls, dance studios, fine arts, and music rooms.
Each building is named after prominent figures in Panamanian culture and dubbed by authorities as “the home of Panamanian culture”; this is “a comprehensive space that will be the epicenter of art and culture.”
It’s a place to relax while observing the flora and a large number of hummingbirds. Built with 70% recycled materials from the old constructions of the Canal Zone, it has its own solar panels and water collectors, making this open structure self-sustainable. It has been constructed with minimal impact on the environment and focused on sustainability. The trail circuit begins in the center itself; here you can sit and enjoy while sipping on complimentary coffee.
OBSERVATION TOWER
Located 200 meters from the Visitor Center, take a right and start walking along a wooden trail, where you’ll find our observation tower. A spiral staircase of 174 steps will take you to resting platforms where you can observe the different layers of the forest. You can ascend to reach the upper deck at 32 meters high, just above the forest canopy.
TRAILS
We also offer a 1.1 km circuit of trails through the forest with easy to moderate transit, 1.2 meters wide with fine gravel and resting areas. One trail leads to the edge of Lake Calamito with a small terrace featuring benches ideal for observing wildlife in the water. Along the longer trail, you’ll find wooden benches halfway through.
